Robben Island

From the 17th to the 20th centuries, Robben Island served as a place of banishment, isolation and imprisonment. Today it is a World Heritage Site and museum, a poignant reminder to the newly democratic South Africa of the price paid for freedom.  The tour guides inside the prison are former political prisoners. The tour route includes the graveyard of people who died from leprosy, the Lime Quarry, Robert Sobukwe’s house, the Bluestone quarry, the army and navy bunkers and the Maximum Security Prison where thousands of South Africa’s freedom fighters were incarcerated for years. The tour culminates with a viewing of Nelson Mandela’s cell.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, a UNESCO world heritage site, is acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain.  The garden boast over 7000 plant species, including many rare and threatened species.  Enjoy a walk on the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway, informally called 'The Boomslang' (meaning tree snake), a curved steel and timber bridge that takes you from the forest floor into and through the trees and bursts out above the canopy, giving spectacular panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains, garden and Cape Flats.

Constantia Wine Valley

See where the winemaking industry in South Africa all started with a visit to the oldest estate in the country, Groot Constantia - dating back to 1685.

The estate is home to first Dutch governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel’s beautiful manor house, the Cloete wine cellar and other historic structures.  The mountain ranges and vineyards offer breathtaking photo opportunities and for the adrenalin junkies, the option to also include a rushing zip lining adventure, mountain biking or horse riding experience through the valley and the vineyards.
